What We Care For

Refugee Driver Education Project
Three in five refugees who arrive in Texas crash their very first vehicle due to unfamiliarity with local traffic laws and road systems. URS operates the only native-language driver education and behind-the-wheel training program in the Texas Panhandle. To date, we have helped 84 individuals earn their Texas driver’s licenses, removing the single greatest barrier to employment and ensuring whole families can safely commute to work, school, and medical appointments. We offer mentorship programs for kids and young adults through exploring and promoting their interests and talents. For example, sports events can be a strong and positive tool for personal development.
English Language & Digital Empowerment
Language acquisition is the gateway to economic mobility. Rather than rigid classrooms, our educational initiatives focus on practical, real-world English, conversational confidence, and foundational digital literacy. We connect learners with supportive community volunteers to build literacy skills, practice everyday conversation, and help parents independently navigate local community resources.Besides language translation services, we also offer English classes and advising on various services. From Immigration and Citizenship, to job searching and training.

Youth Mentorship & Heritage Kids
We provide a safe, faith-centered daily haven for displaced youth through our community friendship ministry and one-on-one mentorship programs. Our Heritage Kids initiative hosts structured weekend fellowship groups dedicated to first-language preservation, ensuring children maintain their cultural roots and family bonds while adapting to a new country. To build teamwork and community, we actively engage and equip youth through local sports activities, soccer competitions, and guided pathways to higher education.
Financial Literacy & Homeownership Pathways
True self-sufficiency requires financial independence and housing stability. We provide financial literacy workshops and direct, in-person bank interpretation to help unbanked families open accounts, establish first-time credit, and understand credit reports. We actively guide families through budgeting and mortgage readiness as they transition from temporary rentals into first-time homeownership.
